Before we begin…

Before you can begin you will need several tools to modify Star Trek Armada. All a freeware and are easy to obtain;

Storm 3D Tool – the storm 3d tool is a very basic 3D tool by Activision for viewing an very limited editing of the 3D models (.sod) used by Star Trek Armada.

GIMP 2.0 – GIMP 2.0 is the freeware equivalent of Photoshop, and it will handle the Targa or .tga format which is the primary type of image used by the game, and it free 🙂

Milkshape 3D – Milkshape 3D isn’t free but it is one of few 3D modelling tools that can export into 3D format (.sod) used by Star Trek Armada but it isn’t expensive and it does come with a 30 trial. You will only need this if you plan to create you’re own material.

Notepad – Notepad is built-in with all versions of Microsoft Windows, this will be used to open .odf (Object Definition Format), .tt (Tech Trees), GUI (Graphical User Interface) and a few more. But you’ll learn more about them later.
